To make a 17" circle with a Basic Glowforge, search youtube for "17" Glowforge Basic Circle". There are a couple of tutorials to guide you there.

To achieve the patterned plaid, I cut scrapbook paper with my laser after cutting my wood ice skate. I then glued the paper to the paper to the wood with a generous of glue stick. I let it dry and then sanded the edges that overlapped a tiny amount.
